London to Brighton Classic Scooter Ride

Preparing for the forthcoming ScooterNova Three Shires Ride on 5/6 June 2021, it suddenly dawned on me I had an uncompleted video of the London to Brighton Ride we did two years ago, in April 2019.

Organised by the Surrey Vintage Scooter Club and co-hosted by the Awfully Pleasant Scooter Association and London Lambretta Club, that ride was for classic scooters of a certain vintage only. The criteria was Vespas with 8″ wheels and 3-speed engines, and shaft-drive Lambrettas only. Nothing more modern than that.

Co-sponsored by ScooterNova magazine, Lambretta Club Great Britain and the Veteran Vespa Club, the “Lighthearted and fun run from the city to the coast” attracted almost 100 riders and scooters from around the UK and Belgium.

The route we took was mainly A and B-roads and the variety of scooters dated from 1948 to around 1958. The review of that London to Brighton ride appeared in edition 14 of ScooterNova magazine, by the way.

While the London to Brighton footage has prompted us to finish off our Lambretta LD to join Andy’s Red Devil D Racer on the road, it won’t be done in time for the Three Shires Ride in a few weeks. Oh well, maybe next time…
We have created a Facebook event page for the Three Shires Ride here, with full details available in the first instance on page 6 of the brand new edition 25 of Scooternova magazine, but be quick as places are limited!

Anyway, sit back and enjoy the video of a load of classic scooters riding together at a pace from a time gone by…
