Italian crash helmet manufacturer Airoh and Swedish automotive safety supplier Autoliv started a joint pre-study aimed at developing a helmet with integrated airbag back in 2020. First unveiled in 2022 at Eicma, at this year’s show they have presented an updated concept of their study.
The integration of the airbag system into the helmet is oriented towards the use of one single cover, detachable during the event of airbag deployment. This apparently enables a freedom to streamline the helmet design as well as an optimising of the airbag towards a larger coverage area and further enhanced safety performance.
There is no news on if or when such a helmet could go into production, but it is an interesting concept nonetheless. For information about Airoh visit their website here.
