New Xena Disc Lock On Test

Security isn’t a dirty word, Blackadder. Crevice is a dirty word, but security isn’t.”

Meanwhile, word reached us recently of a new disc lock by security experts Xena, who have for a number of years now combined said security device with a loud alarm to deter thieves from your vehicle. The latest addition to their range now boasts Bluetooth, so we decided to take a closer look…

Disc locks are in general designed for motorcycles and some modern scooters, all of which have tend to have wheels larger than 10″ diameter, which often leaves those of us with a classic scooter out of the picture.

The Xena XX6 model however does fit the aftermarket hydraulic disc brake I’ve fitted to my old 1960s Lambretta, as you can see from the accompanying photo.
Unfortunately however, the proximity of the disc to hub on my Vespa PX200 means it won’t fit that scooter.

But for my Lambretta it’s perfect. The disc lock is a version of the popular ‘Nissan calliper’ item that has been upgraded in Germany by LTH. I also checked it on my PM Tuning disc brake and it fitted that as well.
The XX6 has a strong mono-bloc 304 stainless-steel body, with hardened-steel pushdown-locking pin, both designed to resist hammer and cutting tool attacks. The max security key and barrel has 250,000 possible combinations and is pick-proof. It also utilises a double-locking system and is ice spray resistant too. There is also a piercing 120dB alarm. Using the Xena App on your phone, Bluetooth connectivity allows you to tailor the settings of the alarm with regards to sensitivity, volume and duration, as well las check the battery level too, all from your smartphone.

The XX6 Bluetooth Alarmed Disk Lock weighs in at around 480g and is compact so can be easily stashed away when not in use. The RRP is £70 and we’ll be using this over coming months and will report back our findings within the pages of ScooterNova magazine.
