As the annual Milan Motorcycle Show draws to a close, you may ask what were the highlights there over the last six days? Luckily Scooternova were on hand to capture
the cream of the classic, modern, auto and geared scooter news for you.
Euro 4

But first the boring news; Euro 4 regulations for powered two wheelers will come into effect from 1 January 2017. This means that manufacturers have been working on their existing models, remaining in production after that date, to meet the new emission legislation and add either ABS anti-lock brakes (over 125cc models) or Combined Braking Systems (a cheaper option for under 125s).
Classic Vespa Parts

For those with a passion for classic geared Vespas, Italian tuning company Pinasco are flat out producing replacement, modified parts to help keep your classic on the road. They recently announced remade engine casings for the Vespa T5, and will be adding to this shortly with smallframe casings (normal and reed induction) as well as some for the Faro Basso too. In fact for the latter expect a 4-speed gearbox, barrel kit and hubs too in the near future, while there’s a new T5 kit and standard 28mm carb also in the horizon.
Lambretta owners should also watch this space too…

Vespa

As for new Vespas, there was the electric powered model we reported on direct from the show last week, and apart from that it was mainly new colours for the existing range.
2017 should also see a tribute to the Sei Giorni six-day racer with a special edition of the Vespa GTV in 125 and 300 forms.

Scomadi
If you prefer your modern autos slightly more svelte but also with more poke, then Scomadi presented their new 400cc model, which will be powered by a former Motori Morini engine for which Scomadi recently purchased the rights. Expect a final pre-production model in later 2017 with any luck.

Maxi Scooters

Other modern auto scooters of significance included the Kymco AK550 maxi-scooter, a twin cylinder liquid cooled machine with a couple of drive options. It certainly looks a decent piece of kit from the Taiwanese manufacturer who have a good reputation, which is probably why BMW chose Kymco to produce scooters and motorbike engines for them.

Yamaha launched three new versions of their popular T-Max scooter in Milan, MotoGP racer Valentino Rossi helping out at the event. With over 230,000 T-Max scooters sold since it was launched in 2001, the latest models of the now 530cc twin cylinder sports scooter include features such as ABS, traction control and keyless ignition.

Honda too had new scooter news, by way of their radical ADV-X ‘crossover’ motorcycle/ scooter. It too has keyless ignition, unique styling, and is powered by Honda’s 745cc twin-cylinder engine driving through their Dual Clutch Transmission and has two automatic modes plus the MT mode for manual gear changes.
Are Friends Electric?

French scooter giants present both a new petrol powered 200cc auto plus a new electric scooter, 20 years after their ScootElec first hit the streets. This time their GenZe is the result of partnership with their owner Mahindra.

Another electric brand to keep an eye on are Gogoro, who launched in Taiwan earlier this year. Their easily removed batteries that can be exchanged at charging stations within seconds make the Gogoro a viable alternative to a petrol powered scooter, providing there is a network of stations for owners to use, which is what Gogoro are developing in Taiwanese cities. They have also recently arrived in Berlin where they are available for hire along the lines of the Boris bikes in London. Interesting times indeed…

The Most Expensive Vespa in the World?
Finally, you may recall the ‘most expensive Vespa in the world’ story we exclusively published a couple of weeks back? Well the company selling that scooter, Ruote da Sogno Srl, were also present at Milan with Vespa number 3, along with a number of other rare examples of Vespa as well as plenty of old motorcycles too. Perfect for those who had recently won the EuroMillions lottery!
We’ll follow that story up shortly with some more images soon, so watch this space.
Until then, here are some more images from Milan. Enjoy…
