The Story of a Professional Mod

ScooterNova are proud to have an exclusive interview with Dean Orton in Edition 51 (September/October 2025) of the magazine, as he prepares to launch his first book, A Life In Lambretta.

There are not many people who have achieved enough in the world of classic scooters to write a book about their life with Lambretta, but Dean Orton is one of those.
While many may recognise his name in association with Rimini Lambretta Centre, Dean’s story actually begins long before that as a young Mod in the dark depths of Cornwall.

The interview in ScooterNova magazine is designed to complement the book, rather than simply compress it into seven pages, giving readers more. Having known Dean for a number of years allowed us to look at his many achievements differently, and even raise a topic or two that he didn’t cover in his own book!

Without wishing to spoil the book, after riding scooters around the UK, Dean decided to venture further afield and ended up moving to Italy, taking his love of Lambrettas and his Mod way of life with him.

A number of images used in his book were supplied by Andy and we have chosen a few others not published by Dean to use in the ScooterNova interview so as to give everyone a little more to enjoy.

So whether you read the ScooterNova magazine interview first or the book, the two accompany each other well and tell a very interesting story indeed that began with a 125cc J-range, took in plenty of scooter scrapyards around Italy and led Dean to restoring some of the rarest Lambretta scooters in the world.
And this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

That story hasn’t ended either and still involves Lambretta J-ranges too along with Dean riding as often and as far as he can.

Dean’s book ‘A Life In Lambretta’  is being sold in the UK by Stuart at Scooter Products – click here for details and to shop online.
