An invitation behind the scenes – Vespa & Lambretta

Want to learn more about what went on behind the scenes when it comes to selling Lambretta and Vespa scooters in the UK? Maybe your interest is in 1970s scooter racing, or aftermarket parts for your scooter? All this and more will be part of  ScooterExpo 2 that takes place on 21 May at Alfreton in Derbyshire.

Lambrettisti

Have you got a hydraulic disc brake on your Lambretta? Want to meet the man behind the first aftermarket version?
Coincidentally he is also the man pictured riding a SIL Lambretta on the 1970s sales leaflet many of us are familiar with. The man is Mike Hayman and he got the modelling gig as the UK’s after sales manager for Lambretta scooters, while his passion for scooter racing led to him developing a hydraulic disc brake when he was part of Team Taffspeed. You can meet Mike at ScooterExpo 2 on Sunday 21 May at Alfreton where he is one of the guest speakers telling these and many other tales of his part in the British scooter scene.

Vespisti

The other speaker is the man pulling the wheelie on a brand new Vespa T5 for the well-known brochure when it was launched in the UK. That man is Norrie Kerr who after starting his scooter life with Glasgow Vespa Club moved south of the border, joined Douglas selling Vespas before opening Midland Scooter Centre with his friend Dave Webster.
Mike and Norrie may have been in rival scooter racing teams, riding Lambretta versus Vespa, but together they will be keeping the crowds enthralled on Sunday 21 May at ScooterExpo 2.

Speakers Choice trophies

Although ScooterExpo is a show without a lavish awards ceremony, we will have two very special awards. The recipients of those two trophies will be chosen by our two guest speakers. The Speakers Choice trophies will be awarded to a scooter of their choice. It’ll be the machine that really catches their eye, be it Vespa, Lambretta or something different altogether.

Souvenirs

The first 1500 through the doors will receive a free show programme. Limited edition Expo patches and T-shirts will also be available to buy on the day.

The doors at ScooterExpo 2 open at 10am on Sunday 21 May with tickets on the door priced at just £6 each. With over 100 of the best classic and custom scooters entered into the exhibition and displayed over TWO HALLS, some of the finest scooter trade stalls booked, a real ale bar, live air-brush painting and sign-writing too, there will be plenty for everyone throughout the day.

The venue is Alfreton Leisure Centre, Church Street, Alfreton, Derbyshire, DE55 7BD and is just a few minutes from the M1 motorway.
