Back in January 2014 we bought you news of another new scooter that would wear the Lambretta name badge. At the time this was to be the Lamsport 125 from Vietnam, an arguably rather nicely designed sports scooter from the pen of Italian Alessandro Tartarini.Taking obvious design cue from the gorgeous Ducati Panigale sports bike, Tartarini is part of the family behind the Italjet brand in Italy, his father Leopoldo Tartarini (with whom they patented their design of the Italjet Dragster scooter) founding the company in 1959, Alessandro’s brother Massimo Tartarini taking over in the early 2000s.

However, while the Lamsport was launched in Vietnam back in January, a report on a Thai internet forum here suggests that in Thailand at least, this scooter is to be branded as an Italjet Formula 125.

Fans of the original Italjet Formula 125lc – which we are – will know that when Italjet launched that in Italy back in the 1990s it featured a liquid-cooled 125cc twin-cylinder, 2-stroke engine courtesy of Morini Franco Motori. The first of its kind since the Moto Rumi scooters of the 50s and 60s, blueprint these engines and you could get the Italjet Formula 125 Twins to do 80mph+.

Sadly these new Italjet branded scooters look to be made in Asia (someone on the http://pantip.com/topic/32213285 web forum suggests Sym are involved maybe?) and then had Italian flags and Italjet stickers added. The engines are single cylinder air-cooled 4-stroke 125s and aside from the styling – which by today’s modern scooter standards is pretty good – there’s little more to say. Oh, unless anyone plans to produce a version with a 125cc 2-stroke, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine… please?
