The Scomadi brand name arrived a few years ago as a result of research and development into creating a modern scooter that was influenced by 1960s Lambretta scooters.
The first scooters were hand-built, limited edition carbon fibre bodied scooters powered by 250cc and then 300cc Piaggio 4-stroke auto engines, as used in the Vespa GTS range. These were produced by PM Tuning and Scooter Innovations in Lancashire and a couple of these were on display in Milan.
The next step was to create a more affordable version, IE mass-produced. With this in mind, Scomadi have revealed that 50cc 4-stroke auto and 125cc 4-stroke auto are the first to be produced, the moped using a Chinese engine and it will be built in China.
Despite looking like a Lambretta GP, there are quite a few differences. The legshields are taller, like a SX, the main frame seat arch wider to accommodate the modern engine, and the indicators have been subtly sunk into the panelwork – all of which is painted plastic by the way, fixed to a tubular steel frame. The panels have also been redesigned from the limited edition Scomadio 250/300 scooters, reducing their width at the top so as to make it easier for the rider to get their feet on the ground.
The headset features plastic covers around steel handlebars, the headlight halogen and the rear light feature LEDs. The headset is also built to house two master cylinders, for hydraulic disc brakes front and rear. The production scooters are to have a softer rider, aimed at the everyday rider as opposed to the high end suspension options of the limited edition models which can feed quite a bit of vibration through to the rider, depending on the set up and spec of each scooter.
The speedometer features the speed and also a rev counter as well as indicator and full beam lights, and the scooters will all come with a legshield toolbox and rear rack for carry luggage.
While the aim is to start production of the TL50 and TL125 in the first half of 2014, finer details of the TL300 are still yet to be confirmed.
Whatever your thoughts, it’s good to have a new production scooter on the horizon from a British firm, and when it hits the streets I’m sure the styling will get many talking too.

It looks great and should be fairly light to handle. For the UK will the 50cc be classed as a moped and therefor be rideable on a car licence without a test ??? Now that would be good as I was a 60’s Mod but never passed my scooter/bike test. Bet it will be very expensive though >>>
We presume the 50 will be classed as a moped as they usually are. No confirmed prices yet but should be competitive as will be manufactured in the Far East.

Hope the 250 & 300 Models will be manuals?
Unfortunately they’ll be automatic, probably using the same Piaggio engine that’s in the Vespa GTS.
